As guests arrive at Chakra, high-quality food and an uplifting, romantic energy await
With rich teak floors and tables, silk-tented bungalows, mahogany-paneled walls, Oriental rugs, exotic candlelight, and soft velvet pillow-backed banquettes, Chakra {144 West State Route 4 (East),Paramus NJ 07652; 201.556.1530;chakrarestaurant.com} is a feast for the senses. The plush interior is also marked by a low-lit stone water wall transitioning between the colors of the seven chakras. As for the food, Thomas Ciszak, chef and owner, doesn’t like to use labels. He aims instead for whatever is local and seasonal. Everything is made in-house, whether it’s smoked or cured. German and Asian-inspired dishes are featured, though Ciszak makes a point not to put his concept “in a box.” And he takes pride in the quality of everything, whether it’s steak, chicken, lobster, swordfish, or pasta. All cocktails are hand-crafted and taken as seriously as food. Organic and bio-dynamic wines are offered, ranging in costs from $36-500 per bottle. There is also a stunning bar-lounge with a mirrored back bar, and private dining rooms for your next special event.
