“One of my favorite dishes right now is the Farro and Quinoa with roasted delicata and butternut squashes,” says Chef Seadon Shouse of the dish he created. Healthy with a dash of decadence, the dish is also comprised of kale, aged Gouda, and mascarpone. The artful array of flavors is topped with pumpkin seeds. According to Shouse, the popularity of the vegetarian entrée came as a bit of a surprise. “Even non-vegetarians order it,”he says.
A Menu for all Palates
The gem of the Halifax’s menu is its share-ability. While there are amazing items such as the Barnegat Sea Scallops ($32), the Smoked Amish Chicken ($22), and herb-rubbed New York Strip Steak ($38), almost half the menu are items mean for sharing. You can choose to go with plates of cured meats and pâté or artisanal cheeses (three for $16, five for $25) or you can go with items from the raw bar such as the Halifax Seafood Platter ($65), which comes with oysters, clams, poached shrimp, pollock rillette, and smoked mussels. If none of that sounds appealing to you, there’s always delicious shareable dishes such as the Salt Cod and Shrimp Fritters ($14) or the Crispy Vegetables with smoked tomato aïoli ($12). Top these plates off with a craft cocktail, such as the Cider House Rules ($12), made with Sauza tequila, apple cider, and agave, and you’re set for a wonderful night. Open Monday-Friday 6:30-10pm and Saturday and Sunday 7am-10pm.
