Bahrs Landing
Oktoberfest Jersey-Style
Where to Celebrate the Season with Brats and Beer
By Alina Maceczek @expl0rewithalina
Prost, Jersey—Oktoberfest is here. Think of it as the St. Patrick’s Day of the fall—swapping out the shamrocks for steins, corned beef for bratwurst—and you’ve got a party rooted in Bavarian beer, soft pretzels, and questionable choices involving lederhosen.
Whether you’re in it for the craft lagers or just the excuse to eat schnitzel like it’s a sport, here are three of my picks for Oktoberfest—stein-holding contests, themed menus, and all.
Bahrs Landing
{2 Bay Ave, Highlands; 732-872-1245; bahrslanding.com}
Bahrs Landing feels like a getaway the moment you arrive—ocean breeze, waterfront views, and a nautical setting that feels miles from the hustle. Known for its fresh, locally sourced seafood, Bahrs has stayed true to its roots while evolving with the times. The latest upgrade? An outdoor dining area and tiki bar, perfect for sunset cocktails overlooking Sandy Hook Bay.
Oktoberfest at Bahrs Landing isn’t a one-weekend affair—it’s a full-blown seasonal takeover. From mid-September through December, this Jersey Shore staple rolls out a hearty, German-inspired menu that’ll have you raising a stein before your entrée even hits the table.
Bahrs serves up a full-on Oktoberfest spread, from giant pretzels and crispy potato pancakes to schnitzel, pierogies, and pot roast—all with
a side of Hofbräu and hearty fall vibes.
Bahrs isn’t just serving Oktoberfest classics in-house—they’re also firing up the grill at the 24th Annual Highlands Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 20 at Veterans Park. Admission’s free, the beer is flowing, and Bahrs is behind the authentic German eats, from bratwurst to sauerkraut. Add in live music and fall vibes, and you’ve got a full day of steins, snacks, and shoreline celebration.

Starting the third week of September, enjoy their special Oktoberfest menu featuring house-made German favorites like the fan-favorite Sauerbraten—served with a potato pancake and braised red cabbage—plus Bavarian pork chop, Jaeger schnitzel, and a German sausage sampler. These specials run through November.
